The relationship between wild mustangs and Native American tribes is deeply rooted in history and tradition. For centuries, these magnificent creatures played a vital role in the daily lives and spiritual beliefs of indigenous peoples across the American West.

​To Native American tribes, the wild mustang was more than just a means of transportation; it was a trusted partner in survival. Mustangs provided Native Americans with a reliable mode of transportation, enabling them to travel vast distances in search of food, water, and shelter. Whether traversing rugged mountain terrain or navigating the vast plains, mustangs served as invaluable companions to their human counterparts.

​In the vast expanse of the American West, where rugged landscapes stretch as far as the eye can see, there exists a symbol of untamed freedom and resilience — the wild mustang. Picture in your mind the breathtaking sight of these majestic creatures, their manes dancing in the wind as they gallop across the open plains. The wild mustang embodies the spirit of the frontier, a living testament to the untamed beauty of the American wilderness.

​It is such an interesting question, given the history of the Mustang breed.  Are there pure “Mustangs” ?  That begs an interesting question as well.  They came over from Spanish conquerors in the 1500s.. With the wild exploration in the new frontier, starting in the East and moving towards the West, many of these Spanish horses called mesteño or monstenco (meaning wild or stray) were used for transportation and to move cargo, heavy items and materials to help humans explore and expand.  Overtime, they were released, and escaped from their captors,liberating themselves into the wild.
