It is such an interesting question, given the history of the Mustang breed. Are there pure “Mustangs” ? That begs an interesting question as well. They came over from Spanish conquerors in the 1500s.. With the wild exploration in the new frontier, starting in the East and moving towards the West, many of these Spanish horses called mesteño or monstenco (meaning wild or stray) were used for transportation and to move cargo, heavy items and materials to help humans explore and expand. Overtime, they were released, and escaped from their captors, liberating themselves into the wild.
